Debt Relief and Loan Repayment Assistance
The College Cost Reduction & Access Act (CCRAA) of 2007 created The Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program (PSLF) to encourage individuals to enter and continue to work full-time in public service jobs. After ten years, participating borrowers may qualify for forgiveness of the remaining balance due on their eligible federal student loans. The Equal Justice Works website is an excellent resource on this topic.
Duke University School of Law and the University of North Carolina School of Law offer loan repayment assistance to their graduates. The level of assistance NC LEAF provides will be coordinated with that which the individuals receive from their law school.
NC LEAF administers the Legal Aid of North Carolina loan repayment program for its employees. This partnership has been in effect since 2007.
